First, let me emphasize that a leader is not a teacher.
If you would like to become a leader, choose the level at which you would like to study. If you're an HTML guru, I don't expect you to lead a Level One group. In fact, just the opposite; I want you to be able to learn right along with your members. Remember, this is a studygroup, not a class.
What being a leader does mean is that you are my contact point. You're my eyes and ears within your studygroup. Recording the names and email addresses of all the group members, making sure they are all on the mailing list, coordinating meeting times, and facilitating communication within the group are all your responsibilities. You'll also keep me informed as to your regular meeting times and places and topics of study, so that I can direct future StudyGrrls to the correct group.
You might be called upon to be a mediator. Resolving group conflicts, encouraging communication, and keeping in contact with other leaders in your area are all up to you. In addition, the decision as to whether or not to accept a new member, and the determination of when your group is full is yours.
Eventually I hope to also have Coordinators for each area. This position would entail making sure that each area is represented with a web site, and that each of the leaders in your area is informed as to all the events, updates, and changes within StudyGrrls. You would essentially be the leaders' leader.
I hope to make all of this as easy as possible on you. After all, we're all busy grrls and none of us needs any extra stress! But I can tell you from experience that helping yourself and others learn is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world.
If you're interested in becoming a leader or coordinator, please email me and let me know where you are, and what skill level and interest areas you have.
